Kolopsis torus

Kolopsis torus was a mid-sized diprotodontid known only from the late Miocene Alcoota Local Fauna in the Northern Territory of Australia. Standing around 80 cm tall at the shoulder, this was one of the first diprotodontids to show large body size, a trend that began in the later Miocene and continued through into the Pleistocene. Its teeth suggest it was a generalist browser that would have fed on leaves, shoots and stems.

A nearly complete skeleton of Kolopsis torus mounted on a perspex background silhouette in a sandy, arid backdrop.
