Fossil footprints attributed to Thylacoleo carnifex
Thylacoleo carnifex was the largest of the Australian marsupial carnivores and its fossils have been found all over the Australian mainland and in Tasmania. These animals left behind many footprints in their wanderings along the southern Australian coast and some spectacular trackways are known from SW Western Australia, the remote western coast of South Australia and Warrnambool in SW Victoria.
