Current Research

Research Areas

The Centre for Defence Engineering Research and Training (CDERT) conducts research in maritime autonomy, robotics, signal processing, AI/ML and cyber systems.

Aspects of our research activities are concerned with improving the robustness, reliability, and autonomy of Topcat. We are currently conducting research in three main areas:

    • Mission planning
    • Control systems
    • Object recognition and classification

This research has led to the ongoing development of state of the art predictive control systems and new mission planning algorithms which we will be testing out on TopCat in the near future.
