Audio transcript:
Welcome to the education blitz for Safely Sleeping Aboriginal Babies in South Australia – Doing it Together. Before we progress, I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands and waters upon which we designed and now implement this research. I would like to pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise that their connection to land is as strong now as it ever has been.My name is Julian Grant. I am an Associate Professor in Child and Family Health Nursing at Flinders University and the lead for this project. The Safely Sleeping Aboriginal Babies in South Australia – Doing it Together research project has three distinct phases. By participating in this education module, you are taking part in phase 1, an education blitz. In this education blitz we aim to refresh your existing knowledge around safely sleeping babies. We know that many of you already have a comprehensive understanding of safe sleep. Please see this just as a ‘top up’ or a refresher. The module is informed by current research literature, SA Health policy and practice guidelines, and information specific to the New Zealand based Pepi Pod program. More information about the remaining phases of the research is available on our website. In addition to our funding body, the MRFF, we would like to acknowledge and thank Stephanie Cowan and the team from Change for our Children in NZ from which this presentation is derived. As this module covers materials related to infant death it may trigger sad memories or experiences. Please make sure that you take steps for self-care throughout.
